Okay, basically what I'm saying is, I can't figure out a way to have a background color fill in the text box underneath the text. When I check off the background property, it floods the entire screen. The fill option itself only applies to the text. I'm trying to make videos with white text and a black backdrop, but I'm wondering if there's a quicker way to make it than just manually making a black rectangle and typing over it each time.

Hi folks, I'm trying to make a Buzzfeed type video, and would love to figure out a (relatively) painless way to make text boxes with white text and a black background. I could do this easily with 2015, but on CC 2017, whenever I hit background, instead of filling in just the textbox, it fills the entire screen. Am I missing something crucial? I just want to make a box via area type and just fill that box, but no matter what I do, it simply fills the whole screen. Thanks in advance.
